Gujjar’s protest rocks Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi, Meenas to launch protest against Gujjars

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Delhi and Haryana are also feeling the heat of the protest by Gujjar community happening currently in Rajasthan. The situation has become alarming in these states too as the people of Gujjar community has started protesting in Delhi and some parts of Haryana. The Gujjar community is demanding for the inclusion of the community in Schedule Tribe (ST) list from OBC list.

Till now, the Gujjar movement has been spread to at least 21 districts of the state. On Thursday, the bus and train service to Jaipur and Ahmedabad were badly affected and the Indian Railways had also canceled 23 trains that were to and from Rajasthan for passengers’ safety purposes.

The violent protest is the clear example of the increasing intolerance in people of India. It erupts some times in the name of religion and sometimes in the name of castes. This time the reservation ghost has been back again with a bang. The Gujjar community has gone on rampage to get inducted to Schedule Tribes list from the OBC category.

When the BJP had assumed power in Rajasthan, the party had promised to Gujjar community that it would create pressure on the central government to change the caste status of the Gujjar community from OBC to the schedule Tribes.

However, the state government did nothing till date to fulfill its promise even completing three years in office. Earlier, the Gujjar community had warned the government that it would start protest across the state but the state government did not take any notice of the warning.

The Gujjar Mahasabha, who is leading the agitation for ST status in Rajasthan, had earlier warned the state government to put forward the matter to the Centre by May 29 or they should be prepared for the dire consequences.

Now, in a recent development, the Meena community that comes in the Schedule Tribe list of Rajasthan, have said that they will launch their agitation against the inclusion of Gujjars in the ST list. It would make the situation more violent that is already looking out of the control of the administration in Rajsathan.

Eunuchs adopt girl child to eradicate female foeticide

eunuch.jpg

I might be hurting many a patriotic sentiments when I say that, we have no rights whatsoever to eel proud at the development that India has made in the 60 years post independence, because the situation of female foeticide is still no better. Till date a girl child is considered as a liability for the family and till date she has to bear the brunt of being born as a female child.

Saying this, I am no way neglecting the efforts that have been made to make situation better for girls, but still there’s a long way to go.

If we have certain parents who didn’t think even once about their own innocence daughter before taking her life, then we also have the representatives of a section of a society which has borne a lot of discrimination before fighting and winning their own sytaus…we are talking about the Eunuchs. With a view to bear the torch to preventing female foeticide, eunuchs in Madhya Pradesh have come forward to adopt female babies of indigent parents.

Poonam John, is one such daring an eunuch from Ratlam district of Madhya Pradesh, who has appealed to the poverty stricken parents to hand over their girl childs to them, rather than exposing then to foeticide. She has already adopted six-month-old Roshani, and four and a half years old Sonu.

‘Their life is saved and I have got the opportunity to enjoy motherhood which would have not been possible otherwise,’ said the happy mother Poonam after adopting the babies. Joining hands with her is Suraiya Nayak, from Bhopal who has recently adopted a baby girl and has promised to keep the away from singing or dancing like eunuchs to earn a livelihood and to educate her rather.

Or those who feel that there’s still some traits of humanity left over inside, should take inspiration from Poonam and let their own daughter live…for this is the least that they can do to eradicate this social evil from the Indan society.

China denies visa to IAS officer from Arunachal Pradesh

Saturday, May 26th, 2007

china-arunachal.jpg

The Chinese embassy has denied giving visa to a senior IAS officer who belongs to Arunachal Pradesh. This is a clear indication that they actually assert Arunachal as Chinese part. If they would give visa any Arunachali, it would be like their acceptance of Indian sovereignty on Arunachal Pradesh.
The government of India is still silent on this matter. BJP MP, Kiren Rijiju, said: I am shocked. I don’t understand why the Indian Government is not reacting to this.
The government of India, after taking initiative by PM Manmohan Singh himself, had planned to arrange a first ever visit of 107 IAS officers to China. Now, because of the visa problem to the senior IAS officer from Arunachal Pradesh, C Ropianga, the Indian Government had to cancel their visit to China.

According to Arunachali representatives, the UPA government is not taking necessary steps in this matter. This is a matter of great concern because China has a habit to claim their sovereignty on Arunachal Pradesh. India’s ignorance of this matter would encourage China to believe it can get away with anything as it has been doing for some time.

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Since May 14, we have been witnessing the indigenous leaders taking rides around the globe to make a final declaration at the Sixth Session of the UN Permanent Forum. The annual two-week forum was a success in terms of number of people present there as it records 2,500 registrants, including delegates, nongovernmental organization officials and indigenous rights activists.

The Declaration highlights the rights of indigenous people to uphold and support their institutions, civilization and customs and support them in developing their own needs and aspirations. Almost two decades ago, the rights of the Indigenous People were endorsed to UN Declaration by the UN Human Rights Council. But the issue remained as some Member States raised concerns, as a result of which the General Assembly delayed act.

Relating to the issue, an exhibition was organized on 24-25 May about human rights at the 4th International Human Rights Forum Lucerne (IHRF), “Human Rights and Children”.

Interview: Miss India World Sarah Jane Dias Unleashed!

Friday, May 25th, 2007

Miss India World Sarah Jane

You know her grilling the stars on Channel V….you saw her sizzling the stage at the Pantaloon’s Femina Miss India Contest…now see the crowning glory Sarah Jane Dias getting grilled with some quickies and know her better!

Sarah in one word…Individualistic
Sarah the kid …A nerd in school in Muscat and a rather quiet ‘bachcha’

You wanted to grow into…someone famous, though didn’t know how, when or why…
Feelings on being one of the top five …I was nervous and oozing with confidence at the same time. I tried my best to be as calm and retain my confidence level. I might be sounding clichéd but it was my belief in me that kept my confidence level high. Honestly, I have never been so focused, but for this pageant I guess I’d put in all my dedication and devotion.

First expression at being announced as Pantaloons Miss India World…sheer and utter disbelief…I couldn’t feel the ground under my feet and couldn’t even breathe. When I realized that I’ve won it, tears came rolling down. My mom was sitting right in the front and it made me happier at that time.

College for you…It was exiting, though school always rocked! I enjoyed theatre and music during school.
What kinda men can impress Sarah…a good heart and a good sense of humour

Love or Lust?…love, without a doubt…
Sarah ten years down the line…happy, successful, settled
Sarah’s passions……my music, it finds it’s way into all parts in my life…The first word after my birth was “Who turned off the music?”

Sarah’s rule… Take one day at a time. I am too honest. And don’t ever compromise on your principles. If you believe in your heart that it will it has to happen.

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

dr.jpg

Mahmud Ali Durrani, Pakistan’s envoy to the US has called India as ideal modern country and a role model of democracy and economic development. He said this during his interview in USA Today. He recognized the growth story showed by India that is being appreciated worldwide. In the same interview, he also commented Pakistani nuclear scientist A Q Khan that khan and said Pakistan would have strung him from the tallest tree.

He later accepted Pakistani people watching Indian saga with a greater difference and do compare Pakistan’s growth with India. He accepted that India has become a role model for its better democratic structure and its sustainability. At the same time, India has showed its hunger for the development and it has also become the role model country in economic development. However, he said that on the question of a secular state, India has fallen off. It can be rated as a role model yet.

He was hopeful that one day Pakistan would beat India in democracy and economic development both because Indians and Pakistanis are similar people. According to him, the basic difference was that India had good destiny that a narrow family ruled the country for 30 years with great determination for development.

On the other hand, Pakistan was not so lucky and it had failed to develop a better democratic structure and a well-developed political leadership. He expressed the hope that Pakistan would have been the same because both India and Pakistanis are very similar in nature.
