India to see post-poll political drama in UP

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

One-month long election process has been ended in UP. The exit polls are making it clear that the political leaders will be busier than others in post-poll days. Everyone has a plan and everyone will be interested to know other’s plan. The real game would start when no party would get majority in the state. Indian people is waiting to watch another great Indian political drama in Uttar Pradesh.
Rahul Gandhi said: I have a plan in this regard but I would not share it now. Senior leaders of the party will take any decision about a post-poll alliance. I will not go into that. I was assigned to make the party stand on its own in the state.
The survey clearly revealed that Mayawati’s Dalit-Brahmin equation would score over Mulayam’s Muslim-Yadav equation and BJP’s forward caste equation. According to the survey, the BSP may get its share of 29 per cent in overall vote share. The SP and the BJP would possibly get at 25 and 22 per cent vote share.

The survey says that the BSP may get seats between 152 and 168 with its domination in Bundelkhand and Western Uttar Pradesh. On the other hand, the Samajwadi Party would finish at second in the race with seats between 99 and 111 seats. BJP could land on the third place with near to 100 seats. Congress would trail in the race at fourth position in the assembly.

Now, who would get the CM’s chair in this assembly is the biggest question. There is a possibility, however less, that Congress may go with BSP or would demand for president rule in the state in the case of no party getting the magic number in the state assembly.

Govt may ban books, newspapers in public interest: SC

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

According to the Supreme Court, the Government may impose ban on any publication to safeguard public order. It does not matter that the ban means restricting the freedom of expression granted by the constitution of India.

The SC bench of Justices B P Singh and H S Bedi stated that this is true that banning a newspaper or book or a document is a serious encroachment on the right of a citizen, but it can be done in the public interest it must without a doubt have pre-eminence over any individual interest. With this ruling, the bench upheld the Karnataka Government’s decision to ban a vernacular novel, Dharmakaarana.

The novel “Dharmakaarana” on 12th century saint Basaveshwara, also known as Basvanna, contained alleged derogatory references to the sage and was banned in 1995 by the state government following a public outcry by invoking section 95 of CrPC.

In this unique bar, one can find real condoms dotting the wall. The souvenirs in the bar such as cups, T-shirts and caps also emphasizes on the use of condoms and safe sex. In addition, there is a counter in the bar from where anybody can get free condoms. One can find even female contraceptives free of cost here at the bar.

In a practice to show its commitment to a great social cause, the Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation (CITCO), a semi-government organization, has set up the ‘condom bar’.

Pooja said after opening up the bar: I am so happy that CITCO has taken the initiative to create awareness among people, especially youngsters, regarding HIV and AIDS. There is nothing like safe sex.

She said further that the attitude of people towards the AIDS victims is being changed with a great pace. This has given her the courage to take such initiative to inaugurate such bar. Muslim women eyes virtual world for a real husband

muslim women

A 29-year-young British Muslim from central England, divorcee is still hopeful to get a better half for herself. This time she is not eyeing a favour from her parents but is relying upon the Internet.

She’d been married once to a man from Pakistan. After seven years it broke down due to cultural differences, but gave her a lesson. This respectful dame wearing hijab, retained her respect for her family culture and values imparted by them.

The young lady was hopeful that the boom created by Web sites for Muslim men and women, not for casual dating, but for those actively seeking traditional Muslim marriage could be of help to her.

The incumbent is registered on singlemuslim.com, Britain’s largest Muslim introductions agency for past few months and has also found someone who seems to be a perfect candidate for her dream man portrayal. The site has registered users more than double over the past year to 100,000, as word has spread about its service, not only among singles but their parents too.

“My parents are coming round (to the idea),” she said. “He’s a British Pakistani Muslim and more in line with what I’m looking for.” As against the custom of marriage fixed by parents with pundits sitting next to them doing match-making through horoscope; the Internet gives it full contribution in making partners meet even if parents remain away from the chart.

“Our success rate is extremely high,” said Adeem Younis, who founded the site from his base in West Yorkshire six years ago. “Two people a day, on average, are coming off the site having found success, which is a lot really. We’re seeing the number of traditionally arranged marriages dropping quite rapidly as this becomes more popular.”

On other sites, more than half the registered users are working women who are not only independent but above-average incomes. “It’s been a major revolution,” said Geeta Sri Vastav, the UK head of shaddi.com, which calls itself the world’s largest matrimonial service, with 10 million registered users, most in South Asia — in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

May Day highlights plight of 40 cr workforce

May Day

With the nation ringing the alarm of “May Day” on 1 May, the deplorable condition of almost 40 crore workers from unorganised sector also echoes with the same pitch. Out of the total work-force, 92% belongs to unorganized sector contributing about 60% to the GDP. Considering this major contribution, the news is a living shock as the legislation for providing social security to them is still not in place.

‘It will be soon enacted’ but no knows when and how early? Parliament’s Standing Committee on Labour has noted that besides Government’s several laws and schemes for the welfare of workers, there is ‘much to be done”.

Pointing towards the workers, Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes said in his May Day message that besides enacting legislation for offering social security to them, “the Government wants to effectively implement some of the important legislations enacted for their welfare”.
