Amitabh goes to High Court against Faizabad Commissioner’s decision on Barabanki land

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

bachchan.jpg
Amitabh Bachchan has finally decided to move the Allahabad High Court to challenge the decision given by the Faizabad additional commissioner against his ownership on the land in Barabanki. The commissioner had canceled the transfer of the agriculture land in his name at Daulatpur in Barabanki.
Gaurav Bhatia, Big B’s attorney, has filed a petition before the Lucknow Bench of the high court today. The case will go to the court on hearing on Thursday. Big B has pleaded that the Fizabad commissioner did not give him any time and opportunity to file their words in this case. Bachchan has said in written petition that he was not given any chance to present his side in the matter by the commissioner’s court.
Gaurav Bhatia said that the Faizabad additional commissioner exceeded his jurisdiction by going into the merits of the case whereas he was only to decide upon a technical point. The commissioner did not give Amitabh any opportunity to say anything. That was a gross violation of the principles of natural justice.
Earlier on June 1, Faizabad Additional commissioner (administration) V S Prasad had canceled the transfer of disputed agriculture land in the name of Bachchan in 1983. The commissioner had also called the proceeding as illegal and deceitful.

The diplomats from India as well as from the US are equally concerned to make the India-US nuclear deal operational as soon as possible. US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns is currently on the visit to India and the talks are in progress with Indian officials but still no positive signs have come out in the air.

Earlier, the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that India has its own limitations and the US is bound with their own legal framework on the deal. There is a need to find out a middle ground from where the deal may get a final shape.

Recently, the United States has said that the US administration has worked hard to push the deal forward in positive direction but still there is a need of more works to be done in the civil nuclear deal with.

State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack told media persons; ..I don’t have a detailed readout for you. I know that they did make some progress, but there’s still work left to be done.

According to the report, India has showed its concerns on issues such as reprocessing right, perpetuity of fuel supplies and continuance of the civil nuclear cooperation in case of conducting an atomic test. India has said that it would not accept any legal binding clause on having the right to reprocess spent nuclear fuel.

Tough to lay off India, China from G8 summit

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

g8.jpg

Two of the fastest growing economies in the world, China and India would finally get a place with member countries of G8 as guest members. In the G8 summit in Germany, the German chancellor Chancellor Angela Merkel would welcome the heads of the member countries of G8 (Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States) in Heiligendamm, northern resort in Germany. The representatives from Brazil, China, India, Mexico and South Africa will be also present at the summit.

The G8 leaders will hear the views of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on issues such as climate change and world trade. Lalit Mansingh, a former Indian diplomat commented on the importance given to India and China by the G8 that G8 is being forced to recognize the new emerging powers.

Many international economic reports have revealed in their reports that the Chinese economy unquestionably and the Indian economy probably are going to overtake the United States economic strength in coming days.

The G8 countries are very much aware of the fact. That is why they are giving recognition to these growing economies. This is a clear indication of the fact that the Western part of the globe will have to share power with new emerging power centers in the eastern part of the globe.

Earlier, the tradition to call G8 plus five started at the 2005 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The British Prime Minister Tony Blair had welcomed the heads of the five growing economies in the summit.

China and India have vast population of 2.4 billion people and there is an existence of huge, export-hungry markets in both countries. This is difficult to keep these two countries away from any platform where great countries take participation.

Uday Bhaskar, an independent Indian analyst has his own views on the growing power centers in the world. According to him, there are two levels of power centers, the US, the EU and Japan at level one and Russia, China and India on level two.

Kirori Singh Bainsla, a retired Army colonel, showed the political leaders that an army person may also rock the state on his demand for the welfare of his own community. Controlling the agitation form the village Pipal Khera, Bainsla has given sleepless nights to state government as well as to central government too on Gujjars’ demand. The demand was clear… Include Gujjars in ST list nothing less than that.

The CM of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje felt the heat from the top brass leadership of her own party and invited Bainsla for talks for the first time. Bainsla finally accepted the proposal from the government for forming a 3-member committee to review the demand and to work for the inclusion of Gujjars in ST list.

Bainsla, a postgraduate in English, had joined Indian army as a sepoy and had retired from the Colonel rank. He has another name in army, ‘the Rock of Gibraltar’. He had joined Indian Army as Sepoy and had taken part in the 1962, 1965 and 1971 wars.

Bainsla is popular among Gujjars to make strategies on his military experience. Bainsla and his Gurjar Sangharsh Samiti had started the movement to include Gujjars in the Scheduled Tribe list. In last eight years, Bainsla has given the movement a new face and convinced Gujjars that the community actually needs the ST status for the welfare of the community members.

Reservation policy propels India to caste war, Meenas with guns stand against Gujjar with Lathis

Saturday, June 2nd, 2007

g1.jpg
The policy of reservation has pushed a peaceful state in India to a 5 continuous days of violence. First, the Gujjars started protesting to include the Gujjar community in Schedule Tribe list.

g2.jpg

Gujjars make up some six million of Rajasthan’s 55-million population and are the dominant community in nine of the state’s 32 districts.
g3.jpg
The Meenas claim descent from Vishnu in his fish incarnation and are a scheduled tribe. The Gujjars, another caste group, are seeking that status, which would give them benefits like job and education quotas.
g4.jpg
Now, Meena community, already included in ST list, has started taking oppopsite stand on the demand coming from Gujjars’ side. The protests have become so violent that its heat is being felt in neighbouring states also.

g5.jpg
As result India is looking on the verge of ethnic war on the question of reservation. Till yet, at least eight people have been killed and as many as 30 people have been injured in clashes between these two communities in Rajasthan.

India is paying the price of the 5 days of non-stop violence in several parts in the state. According to the report, at least 10 trains linking Jaipur with Delhi and Agra, generally called as India’s ‘Golden Triangle’ for tourism, were cancelled on Friday. The routine life and daily business in the state has been badly damaged. As a result, the price of essential commodities and vegetables are expected to touch sky in coming days.

Positive signs on Nuke deal come out after Burn’s meeting with Indian diplomats

Friday, June 1st, 2007

burns.jpg

The diplomats and officials from India and the US are trying hard to give the nuclear deal a final shape. On Friday, the discussion has gone in positive direction to make the deal operational. However, some more positive steps are still needed to be taken from both sides for the successful ending of the high-level talks.

According to the report, India’s foreign secretary Shivshankar Menon and US under secretary of state Nicholas Burns talked on much-debated 123 agreement. The aim is clear to both diplomats that the differences on various aspects of the agreement should be sorted out. The report further says that both were looking positive on the development of the talks and there was a forward movement possibly ahead in the negotiations.

Nicholas Burns had also a meeting with Pranab Mukherjee, M K Narayanan and Anand Sharma before meeting with SS Menon. Before going for the discussion Burns had told media persons that both sides are working hard to conclude the deal and everybody hoped it will become operational soon.

After the meeting with Menon and special envoy on the nuclear issue Shyam Saran Burns showed positive response and said that both sides are working hard to finalize the deal as soon as possible. The matter of debate is the points such as reprocessing right, perpetuity of fuel supplies and continuance of the civil nuclear cooperation if India conducts an atomic test in future.

India has always said that it should have the right to reprocess spent nuclear fuel. There should not be any legal binding clause in the agreement that could restrict India’s strategic nuclear program.
