The Winners of ICC Awards 2008
ICC awards 2008 has been announced and rewarded last night i.e. on 10th September 2008 in Dubai. There were various categories of awards for the players such as ICC Cricketer of the year, the award for the ICC Cricketer of the year has been given to Shivnarine Chanderpaul of West Indies, there were three other players who were nominated for ICC Cricketer of the year they were Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka, Graeme Smith of South Africa and Dale Steyn of South Africa. The second category of award is of Test player of the year the nominees for this award were Shivnarine Chanderpaul of West Indies, Mahela Jayawarden of Sri Lanka, Jacques Kallis of South Africa and Dale Steyn of South Africa and the award for this category goes to Dale Steyn of South Africa. The third category is of ODI player of the year the nominees for this award were Mahendra Singh Dhoni of India, Nathan Bracken of Australia, Sachin Tendulkar of India and Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan and the award for this category was given to M.S. Dhoni of India. The fourth category is of emerging player of the year and the award for this category was given to Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka, this bowler is well deserved for this award, for his best performance in his debut test series by taking 26 wickets and 33 wickets in 13 ODIs. The fifth category is of the Twenty20 performance of the year and the award for this category was given to Yuvraj Singh of India for his six sixes in an over in T20 World Cup Year and also for the 12-ball fifty.
The sixth category is of the Umpire of the year and the award goes to Simon Taufel of Australia. The seventh category is of Associate player of the year and the award was given to dutch all rounder Ryan ten Doeschate. The eighth category is of Spirit of cricket award and the award was given to Sri Lanka. The ninth category of award was of ICC test team of the year and award goes to Graeme Smith captain of SA, Virender Sehwag of India, Mahela Jayawardena of SL, Shivnarine Chanderpaul of WI, Kevin Pietersen of Eng, Jacques Kallis of SA, Kumar Sangakkara wk of SL, Brett Lee of Aus, Ryan Sidebottom of Eng, Dale Steyn of SA, Muttiah Muralitharan of SL, 12th man for this category were Stuart Clark of Aus and last category of awards was of ICC ODI team of the year and the award was given to Hershelle Gibbs of SA, Sachin Tendulkar of Ind, Ricky Ponting capt of Aus, Younis Khan of Pak, Andrew Symonds of Aus, Mahendra Singh Dhoni wk of Ind, Farveez Maharoof of SL, Daniel Vettori of NZ, Brett Lee of Aus, Mitchell Johnson of Aus, Nathan Bracken of Aus and 12th man for this category was Salman Butt of Pakistan.
